The SA Council for Businesswomen was established in 1985 with the intention and goal to establish an organization that represents women in business and create a vehicle for women to network, learn from each other, grow and mentor other women in the field of business.  The slogan “Unlocking Potential” is key to this organization as it is the explicit goal of this organization to see women grow into the full potential they were created with and to see them reach their goals and succeed in business.

Since 1985 the prestigious “Business Woman of the Year” award has recognized the accomplishments of outstanding women in business in South Africa.

The aim of the "Business Woman of the Year" Competition:

As part of the SA Council for Businesswomen’s commitment to see women succeed, the role of uplifting and recognizing women for their outstanding accomplishments in business has been fulfilled by the “Business Woman of the Year” competition that is held on an annual basis.
